Compact Molecular Gas Distribution in Quasar Host Galaxies

چکیده
We use Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array CO(2-1) observations of six low-redshift Palomar-Green quasars to study the distribution and kinematics molecular gas their host galaxies at kpc-scale resolution. While content, fraction, star formation rates are similar those nearby massive, star-forming galaxies, quasar possess exceptionally compact, disky distributions with a median half-light radius 1.8 kpc mass surface densities $\gtrsim 22$ $M_\odot$pc$^{-2}$. overall velocity field is dominated by regular rotation out large radii, velocity-to-velocity dispersion ratio 9$, nuclear region displays substantial kinematic complexity associated small-scale substructure in distribution. A tilted-ring analysis reveals that photometric position angles misaligned on average $\sim 34 \pm 26^\circ$, provides evidence twisting. These provide tantalizing clues detailed physical conditions circumnuclear environments actively accreting supermassive black holes.

Molecular gas in compact galaxies
New observations of eleven compact galaxies in the 12 CO J = 2 − 1 and J = 3 − 2 transitions are presented. From these observations and literature data accurate line ratios in matched beams have been constructed, allowing the modelling of physical parameters. Matching a single gas component to observed line ratios tends to produce physically unrealistic results, and is often not possible at all...
متن کاملMolecular gas in blue compact dwarf galaxies
Blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDGs) are currently undergoing strong bursts of star formation. Nevertheless, only a few of them have been clearly detected in CO, which is thought to trace the ”fuel” of star formation: H2. In this paper we present a deep search for CO J = 1 → 0 and J = 2 → 1 emission lines in a sample of 8 BCDGs and two companions. Only 2 of them (Haro 2 and UM465) are detected. ...
متن کاملQuasar host galaxies
The discovery that the formation and evolution of supermassive black holes and their host spheroids are intimately related has given new impetus to the study of quasar host galaxies. As a result, many current studies of quasar hosts are focused on exploring the redshift evolution of the black-hole:spheroid relation, and the evolution of the massive galaxy population as a whole. This brief revie...
متن کاملOn Quasar Masses and Quasar Host Galaxies
The mass of massive black holes in quasar cores can be deduced using the typical velocities of Hβ-emitting clouds in the Broad Line Region (BLR) and the size of this region. However, this estimate depends on various assumptions and is susceptible to large systematic errors. The Hβ-deduced black hole mass in a sample of 14 bright quasars is found here to correlate with the quasar host galaxy lum...
متن کاملCo(1–0) in Z&4 Quasar Host Galaxies: No Evidence for Extended Molecular Gas Reservoirs
We present CO(J=1→0) observations of the high–redshift quasi–stellar objects (QSOs) BR12020725 (z = 4.69), PSSJ2322+1944 (z = 4.12), and APM08279+5255 (z = 3.91) using the NRAO Green Bank Telescope (GBT) and the MPIfR Effelsberg 100m telescope. We detect, for the first time, the CO ground–level transition in BR1202-0725. For PSS J2322+1944 and APM08279+5255, our observations result in line flux...
